Maxims, rules of thumb and other observations on human cognition and sociocultural affectations

This will be added to on an irregular basis...
  • What is said to humans directly is received with skepticism and considered with dubiousness while that which is heard in passing, especially that which most conforms to their mentality or prejudices, is readily believed.
  • Humans have a certain cognitive latency between exposure to new information or experiences and the ability to think dispassionately and intellectually about it.
  • Humans have a certain cognitive spectrum starting with the moment of exposure to new information or experiences and ending with some point at which the thing is effectively "in the past" for them.
  • This cognitive spectrum is linked to the emotional process often referred to as shock, anger, denial and acceptance.
  • The more and faster information or experiences are presented to people and the closer the quarters and the lesser the distance between people, the more their early reactions in the passionate emotional stage are reflected back to them in the manner of responses to those reactions from others in light of those responses.
  • The more outrages which are suffered without sufficient time to allow emotional bleed-off, the farther the bar for subsequent reaction and outrage are pushed, and the more further events must progress before reaction and outrage.
  • It is possible for serious detriments to eventually sit below this threshold for long enough for their damaging effects to build and multiply until their entire society undergoes some reactive convulsion.

Birth of an Ocean: The Evolution of Ethiopia's Afar Depression: Scientific American

Clearly, these eggheads are not seriously conscious enough of the social and cultural consequences of Ethiopia's oncoming disaster of the world's oceans inundating it. Africa is after all the mother of humanity, its cradle, its ancestral home. Its people were the basis of all other human peoples to come. To this day its landscape teems with life still uncataloged and unknown. Life which might even hold the secret to health, longevity, or the cure to breast or uterine cancers.

Yet the world stands passively by as the continents continue to rip and rend the original home of all mankind, threatening to create yet another unnecessary body of salt water to be exploited by game fishermen and shady vacation resort operators and worst of all, the United States military industrial complex in the form of the US Navy.

Please consider for a moment the rare and precious surface land to be lost to flooding, like that of lower Louisiana, and like lower Louisiana, populated heavily by poverty stricken people of color. Where is FEMA? If anything seems like an emergency, the cleaving of continents in two would seem to be it. Does this emergency seem remotely managed to you? Where is Bush on this?

I implore you to consider the terrible consequences of this loss of land, people, and salt deposits to plate tectonics which waste the heat energy of the Earth carrying around people on a millions of years long joyride when men already have planes and ships? Why should Mother Earth bear the burden and strain of shuffling humans around to amuse geophysicists?

Please, please, please, consider taking a stand against this senseless destruction and tragedy now, that can only serve to function as fodder for the year 10000000's modern equivalent of Jerry Bruckheimer and another useless summer blockbuster to entertain and amuse bloated bourgeoisie as they consume more overpriced corn better used for methanol production for cleaner fuel, candy that increases their oversized rear ends and waistlines, and line the pockets of more Hollywood elitists who see mother nature only for the earthquakes, firestorms, tornados, earthquakes, and meteor impacts and never the trees.

Working together, we can overcome this problem.
